SHELTON T.W. GIBBS, III
Bro. Gibbs was born in Ardmore Oklahoma, January 27, 1951. He is the son of the late Dr. S.T.W. Gibbs, Jr. and Thelma L. (Morgan) Gibbs. His father served as minister of the Stop Six Church of Christ for over 50 years. He is the grandson of the late S.T.W. Gibbs, Sr., a great pioneer preacher baptized by the legendary Marshall Keeble. He is also the grandson of another pioneer preacher, the late C.C. Morgan.
Academically, Bro. Gibbs, received the A.A. Degree from Southwestern Christian College In 1971, B.A. Degree from Abilene Christian College in 1975 and M.A. Degree from Amberton University in 1984. He has done additional study at the American Bible College/Seminary in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Southern Christian University in Montgomery, Alabama. In 1997, he received an Honorary Doctor of Divinity from the National Academy of Christian Studies at Fort Worth, Texas. In 2004, he received an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Southwestern Christian College.
Bro. Gibbs served as Director of Admissions at Southwestern Christian College During the years of 1974 – 1982 and during this time SWCC accomplished record enrollments.
In 1975 and 1976 he was nominated as one of the “Outstanding Young Men of America.” In 1984, he was selected to the “National Dean’s List” for outstanding academic work.
He has diligently served the Lord preaching for the past 45 years. He has served as Minister to churches in Clarksville, Mineral Wells, Abilene, and Edgewood Texas. His first full-time work was in Metropolis Illinois in 1972. He has done Evangelistic work throughout our nation and campaigns in Kingston Jamaica, Ghana, and Africa.
Presently, serving as the Minister of the Greenville Avenue Church of Christ in Richardson Texas. While serving as Minister, the congregation has grown from 140 members in 1981 to over 2000. He also served as an Associate Professor in Bible at Southwestern Christian College from 1984 – 2011. He serves on the Board of Directors and the Founder of the Guardian Plan for Southwestern Christian College. He also serves on the Development Board of Lifeline Chaplaincy.
He is married to the former Jeanette Godwin of Jackson Tennessee, a school teacher in the Public School District of Terrell Texas. They have four children, and nine beautiful grandchildren.
His favorite Bible character is Noah and his favorite Bible passage is Hebrews 11:1 – 7.
